Stars are the racing cars of the galaxy

Stars are the Racing Cars of the Galaxy is a series of 12 paintings based on the sounds of space. Taking inspiration from the experiment from Bodily Maps of Emotions by Lauri Nemmenmaa, Ox took the idea of sounds in space and turned it into the idea of how she would react to those sounds and how her perception would translate into art. Using the audios of NASA of a black hole and the edited audios by Tom Whyman, Ox took Inspiration from the experiment by Lauri Nemmenmaa, for the format of this experiment.



Throughout the creation of each painting, Ox discovered a connection between colour and sound, as similar screeches in some of the audios lead to the use of browns and greens, while more soothing audios lead to the use of blues, pinks, and lighter tones. Another discovery was the use of mark making, while she used swirl motions and slow movements for the nicer audios, and used fast, strong strokes and marks for the rougher audios.
